The Jewish Community Relations Council and the Austin Hindu Community host Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt on Sunday, May 19, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. in the Community Hall of the Dell Jewish Community Center. This event is a joint fund raiser and cultural exchange party to provide school supplies for disadvantaged kids in the Manor and AISD School Districts. This family friendly event will provide a vegetarian Indian main course dinner with Jewish desserts, and activities for children and adults including music and dance performances as well as participation. Admission: Adults $18 | Kids Under Age 13–$6). Festive Indian attire encouraged.

The Austin Jewish Film Festival (AJFF) provides Central Texans with the best current Jewish films from around the world. Since 2001, the AJFF has screened feature-length, documentary, animated and short films, offering Austin audiences a view into the vitality and variety of the Jewish experience. AJFF takes place April 13-19, 2013, at two venues–Regal Arbor Cinema at Great Hills (Austin) and City Lights Theatres (Georgetown).

Central Market North celebrates Nowruz, the Iranian/Persian New Year, on Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nowruz (meaning “New Day” in Persian) marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the year in the Iranian calendar. Lineup includes: Bereket (4:30-5:30 p.m.); Ravaan Persian Dance Company (5:30-6 p.m.); Ojalá (6:30-7:30 p.m.); and Atash (8-9 p.m.). Free and open to the public.
