Join Marigold-Gateway to India for a Day of Henna with Mary Bright Side Marlatt, a talented henna artist, on Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Henna is the ancient art of applying designs on skin with a paste made from henna leaves. It is natural, completely safe and temporary and usually lasts about a week. Mary will have designs for you to pick from or you may bring your own. Your design can be as simple or as intricate as you like.  Cost will vary depending on design. Very simple designs start at $5.

Marigold-Gateway to India, is a unique, locally owned retail store that carries clothing for men, women, and children, as well as accessories, gifts, and home furnishings–all imported from India. More than a retail store, Marigold is a hub for many things Indian – from musical events to block printing workshops and ongoing Pilates classes. The South Asian New Year Festival showcases the historically rich, colorful culture of South Asian countries and features traditional South Asian foods, ethnic dress, indigenous arts and crafts, and open air performances of music and dance. Leela – An Indian Community Theatre presents its first ever stage production, a double bill of original plays, PANTS & PERCEPTIONS, the first two Fridays and Saturdays of April, 2013, at 8 p.m. Hosted by LuckyChaos Theater Projects.

Celebrate Diwali Festival of Lights at Central Market North on Sat., Nov. 10, 2012.  Dance troupe Bollywood Shake performs at 6:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.

Atash will perform with special guests Nega Vallie (vocals), Indrajit Banerjee (Sitar), and Gourisankar Karmkar (Tabla). Atash has been awarded Austin’s Best World Music Band for the last five consecutive years at the Austin Music Awards.
