The Jewish Community Relations Council and the Austin Hindu Community host Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt on Sunday, May 19, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. in the Community Hall of the Dell Jewish Community Center. This event is a joint fund raiser and cultural exchange party to provide school supplies for disadvantaged kids in the Manor and AISD School Districts. This family friendly event will provide a vegetarian Indian main course dinner with Jewish desserts, and activities for children and adults including music and dance performances as well as participation. Join Marigold-Gateway to India for a Day of Henna with Mary Bright Side Marlatt, a talented henna artist, on Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Henna is the ancient art of applying designs on skin with a paste made from henna leaves. It is natural, completely safe and temporary and usually lasts about a week. Mary will have designs for you to pick from or you may bring your own. Your design can be as simple or as intricate as you like. Cost will vary depending on design. Very simple designs start at $5.
