Japan Fall Festival

The Japan-America Society of Greater Austin (JASGA) brings Japanese culture to Austin and Central Texas at the 8th Annual Aki Matsuri, Japan Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors will enjoy taiko drums, traditional Japanese music and dance, a tea ceremony, Japanese martial arts, Japanese food and drinks, Japanese games and entertainment, a silent auction and more. Fun cosplay and Lolita fashion costumes welcome. Free for JASGA members and under 18 years; $5 for non-members. #Austin #ATX

The Austin Asian American Film Festival takes place November 13-16 at The Marchesa Theatre. The diverse lineup features award-winning films that cover a variety of genres, themes and topics. Headlining the festival is the Southwest Premiere of “Revenge of the Green Dragons,” executive produced by Martin Scorsese, a brilliant mix between a Hong Kong action film and a New York City crime thriller. Viva la Vida/ Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Festival & Parade | Mexic-Arte Museum | Oct 18

Viva la Vida 2014

Mexic-Arte Museum celebrates its 31st annual Viva la Vida Festival on Saturday, Oct 18, from 12-9 pm in downtown Austin. The #free street festival is Austin’s largest and longest-running Day of the Dead event featuring a Grand Procession (12 Noon), Latino artists and entertainment, an exhibition with community altars inside the museum and educational programs. Participants are needed for all sections of the parade, including pre-Columbian, Modern Mexico, and Austin Weird. People of all ages dressed in skeleton costumes, families, university groups, portable altars, noise makers, Chihuahuas, Aztec dancers, samba dancers, Ballet Folkloricos, and colorfully decorated cars will gather and assemble a joyful procession.
