Fredericksburg, Texas

Fredericksburg was founded by German settlers in 1846 and retains a European atmosphere. There are more than 700 historical structures in the historic district and many are a part of the National Register of Historic Places. Old customs are regularly observed: Schuetzenfests (marksmanship tournaments), Oktoberfest, Zweite Weihnachten, and Kinderfest.

Gruene, Texas

German farmers were the first settlers of Gruene.  The village is now a part of New Braunfels and Gruene is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Heritage Village

Heritage Village is a collection of historic structures that were relocated to the site.  The village includes an early Texas farmhouse of fachwerk construction, an 1850’s limestone and log structure housing a summer kitchen and smokehouse.  Across the backyard is the limestone Breustedt kitchen.  The village also includes a schoolhouse, log cabin, farmhouse, and barn structure housing a Cabinet Shop complete with antique furniture maker’s tools.

New Braunfels, Texas

New Braunfels was founded in 1845 by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels region of Germany and a group of German farmers and craftsmen.  Historic New Braunfels is one of the top tourist attractions in Texas. The city hosts Wurstfest, one of the largest German festivals in America.
