The Tournées Festival: New French Films at the Texas Union Theatre | Feb. 15-24

Tournees Festival 2013

The Department of French and Italian at The University of Texas at Austin in partnership with Freestyle Language Center presents The Tournées Festival, two weekends of new French films, Feb. 15-24, 2013, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. All films are in French with English subtitles. Free and open to the public.

Austin Museum Day – Sept 23, 2012

The Austin Museum Partnership is proud to host the 15th Annual Austin Museum Day – a FREE, community-wide rediscovery of Austin museums. On Sunday, September 23, take the entire family out on the town to enjoy local exhibits and activities at nearly 40 participating institutions!

Get a sneak preview of the new exhibit “Building a Community: The First Century of African Americans in Travis County,” which officially opens on Tuesday, September 25.

The Blanton’s permanent collection of more than 17,000 works is recognized for its European paintings, an encyclopedic collection of prints and drawings, and modern and contemporary American and Latin American art.

Museum Day activities include making your own marionette, a live theatrical performance, a scavenger hunt, and many other fun activities.

Celebrate Museum Day with “Whispers of Africa” which showcases the pride, passion, and magnificent talents of the many people of Africa. The day will be filled with African drumming, folktales, and dancing. Make a Sankofa medallion or an elephant mask. You could even walk away wearing a colorful African Headdress.

Exhibition: Elements of Day of the Dead. This exhibition explores contemporary artists’ interpretations of Día de los Muertos iconography and practices. Selected visual artists will re-imagine the elements of traditional Day of the Dead imagery and rituals. Live screen printing and other holiday related hands-on activities.

Bastille Day Celebration @ The French Legation Museum

Alliance Francaise d’Austin presents the 17th Annual Bastille Day Fête on Saturday, July 14, 2012, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the French Legation Museum.  Enjoy music by Christine Albert, samples of French cuisine, a silent auction, and tours of the historic house and kitchen. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door.  Children 12 and under are free.

SXSW 2012: Free International Music Showcase at Austin City Hall

The City of Austin’s Music Division hosts Austin Welcomes the World: Live from City Hall Plaza, March 14-16, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.   The showcase features three nights of live international music performances by 12 bands from 12 different countries including Japan, Sweden, Denmark, Kenya, Nigeria, Cameroon, Taiwan, Greenland, Reunion Island, and Australia.
